The word superfood isn’t at all official or scientific — it’s simply a fun term given to foods (often plant-based ones) that have a naturally high concentration of health-promoting nutrients such as polyphenol antioxidants, omega-3s, and a variety of vitamins and minerals. Many of these foods have also been associated with different health benefits in scientific studies.
No matter what you call them, some foods — even "basic" ones like broccoli and raspberries — are powerhouses of nutrition that go above and beyond to support good health.
