Why are Sugary Binders So Bad?

Sugary binders are bad for two big reasons: for one, they drastically increase a bar’s sugar content— and excess sugar is associated with everything from imbalanced blood sugar and cravings to increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. According to the American Heart Association, people should be consuming no more than 25 grams (for women) and 36 grams (for men) of added sugars per day. Second, sugary binders are taking up valuable real estate in bars that could otherwise be occupied by much more nutrient-dense ingredients.
